While reading another awesome Tumblr blog, Ghost FM I came across some easy breezy pop that could really only come from one place, San Francisco.
Adios Amigo released their self titled five track EP this past August which you can stream in full from their bandcamp page. Their sound is mellow, yet full of joy. The SF Chronicle describes them perfectly when they say, “Adios Amigo’s music is like taking a happy pill; their pop melodies are like a loving hug.” So prepare your self for a bear hug size serving of indie pop bliss!
Teen Jamz is the debut release from UK based artist Sam McGarrigle. The EP is full of lo-fi deliciousness reminiscent of Ariel Pinks Haunted Graffiti. His grungy riffs are undoubtedly inspired by Nirvana with hints of early 90’s Beck mixed in.
I’m particularly in love with the tracks “We’re Awake Tonight” and “Sweetest Touch” You can listen to Teen Jamz below and then download the full EP plus three extra bonus tracks from his bandcamp site. Listen, tell your friends and then Support Sam and his label Sounds of Sweet Nothing by downloading the EP.
I downloaded Yellow Ostrich, The Mistress a few months ago after hearing the song above “WHALE” somewhere on the inter-web. Needless to say, I immediately fell in love. After listening multiple times I wanted more so I decided delve in to the album which is a beautiful ten track compilation. If you like Radiohead or Fleet of Foxes this album is a must. It’s available on their bandcamp page for the pay what you want price.
Alex Schaaf, the creator of this project has decided to bring on Michael Tapper of We Are Scientists on drums and backing vocals for live performances of Yellow Ostrich. I’m sorry to say that I have not seen them live but, plan to in December. Below is a taste of their album as well as some upcoming dates. They also have a Kickstarter campaign is get the album pressed on to vinlyl and I’m sure after you take a listen you’ll want to contribute.
If you like Local Natives or Kings of Leon then you’re sure to love Young The Giant. Although this group hailing from SoCal is composed of very youthful members, ages 20-22 their arrangements and memorable choruses will make you think otherwise.
They are favorite of local college radio stations and I’m sure that while on a national tour with Marina and The Diamondstheir popularity will spread, making them everyone’s new favorite indie band. They are undoubtedly a group to watch this year.
The video above “I Got” is also one of my favorite tracks off their self titled album, dropping at the end of this October. Another favorite includes, “My Body” which you can see a live recording of below as well as download on their site for FREE.
I was at The Studio at Webster Hall the Other night with the sole intention of interviewing Keepaway. I’m sure you remember them from their rave reviews in Fader and Pitchfork and for their single “Yellow Wings”. Look out for a fabulously sarcastic interview with them coming up next week.
After wrapping the interview, I decided to stay for their set. The band on before them was Oberhofer. I have to admit, I groaned to myself when they came on stage. They all had large black X’s on their hands indicating that they were under 21 and I thought to myself, “They are probably young and inexperienced. I bet this is their first gig, but what choice do I have.” However, they blew my expectations out of the water and put on a great performance. Everything went smoothly minus the bassists instrument string snapping. They stayed on for Keepaways performance and I made sure to ask their lead singer, Brad who is a doppelganger for Nick Jonas the name of their band.
Their EP, “oO0OoO0Oo” appropriately titled and you will understand after hearing all the tracks is great. It’s catchy in a good way and I can guarantee that you will want to listen to it more then once. Featured above is their track “Dead Girls Dance” and as bonus you can download the EP FREE. If you’re in NYC make sure to catch them at the venues listed below.
I’m not sure how this happened, but the “New Moon” Soundtrack has some pretty kick ass artists on it. Including Grizzly Bear and Victoria Legrand of Beach House. Here they are performing “Slow Life”.
Another great track off that album is Bon Iver’s “Roslyn.” Check it out below with the rest of the artists featured on the soundtrack.
