The Kills - Blood Pressures //

Just listed as one of the bands to watch out for in 2011, here’s a first taste of The Kills forthcoming album “Blood Pressures” (set for an April 5th release in US).

The track above is second on the list of words below that you will soon associate with Mosshart and Hince’s effortlessly edgy rock laced with a tantalizing mixture of lyrical melancholy and carnal indifference:

1. Future Starts Slow
2. Satellite
3. Heart Is A Beating Drum
4. Nail In My Coffin
5. Wild Charms
6. DNA
7. Baby Says
8. The Last Goodbye
9. Damned If She Do
10. You Don’t Own The Road
11. Pots and Pans

Bands to Watch 2011 - Part Deux //

Two days ago we started you off with part one of our bands to watch for 2011 list. Today we are continuing to name some of our favorite prospects for the year.  Let us remind you this isn’t just new bands to look out for this list also includes bands that we think are going to have a super successful year that you may already know about ie. Cut Copy or The Kills.  We have our final installment coming up this weekend so stay tuned!

Real Estate- Jeff Says… Despite a well-received 2009 self-titled debut, it’ll be 2011 when this Ridgewood / Brooklyn band really comes into its own.  The cornerstone of the consistently interesting New Jersey label Underwater Peoples, Real Estate has done nothing but age well, though briefly. Twitter says they’re recording in a barn house this time around, so let’s hope it works out to their benefit.  If they can outdo their first LP, we’ll be hard pressed to find a more assured candidate for album of the year.

The Front Bottoms- Jeff says… I can’t decide if the Front Bottoms are the ultimate guilty pleasure, or the sprout of an anthemic pop duo set to rule the new decade, but either way I can’t stop singing along at the top of my lungs to their 2010 EP Slow Dance to Soft Rock. Guitarist and Lead vocalist Brian Sella spews out adolescent ramblings in the catchiest of ways, while drummer Matt Uychich beats out solid punk pop torrents, often without pants. Their live show is nothing to shy away from either - these two can easily make a crowd scream in blissful unison, wether or not Matt’s drum kit will survive the ordeal is a much more unpredictable question to answer. Look out for their 2011 EP Grip ‘n’ Tie and check them out next weekend on the 27th at Jersey’s Maxwell’s.

Young Circles- Jess says… If we tried to describe the sound, I don’t know that we could. Electronic meets psychedelic rock meets a little Flaming Lips meets some Nine Inch Nails darkness meets Beck (I am out of breath)! This is a must hear if you are into music that pushes the envelope and doesn’t make up ridiculous genres just to sound innovative. I think we can safely call it Industrial Rock or just refrain from trying to categorize it. Either way, watch out 2011! Did I mention they were from Miami?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.- Jess Says… They’re right my love for them is so easy and their music video for “Nothing But Out Love” is as original as it is entertaining.  Hell, the whole EP is great and it leaves us begging for a full album.  Their cover of the “God Only Knows” gives the beach boys a run for their money.  They were received incredibly well at CMJ.  ”Simple Girl” lyrics and harmonies remind us of the early Beatles.  Keep an eye out.  They will wowing you!

Cut Copy- Kylie says… See them live in 2011. But be quick, shows are selling out at the speed of light. The Melbourne electro masters have had to add extra NYC shows for the US leg of their new Zonoscope Tour. Consistently a festival favourite in Australia, they have already been listed on the Coachella line-up.

The Kills- Kylie says… Before Allison Mosshart entered Dead Weather territory, she found success as one half of The Kills. Just as Dead Weather comrade Jack White is embarking on some new White Stripes material early this year, MV is very excited to announce that The Kills 4th album ‘Blood Pressures’ will be released in the USA on April 5th, 2011. Mark your calendars.

Wiz Khalifa- Kylie says… With a new album “Rolling Papers” hitting the streets March 29, 2011, expect grandiose things from one of the hottest hippity hoppers on the scene.
