Schoolly D - I Just Can’t Help Myself

There was a time when I truly thought that nothing good ever came out of Philly - and I was mostly correct.

But I have had a whiz-with, I’ve run up the steps to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and I have watched my friend shake up a bottle of beer and spray it all over the trashy people at the trashy bar we were at - so I know there are at least a few good things to find.

Now some of you may be thinking “but what about that kid who got tasered earlier this week? that was cool….” and I agree with that - still not a “good” thing though I’m glad to see the Philly Police are finally treating the people of Philly like the nefarious bunch that they are.

So with that in mind I give you “I just couldn’t help myelf” by Schoolly D. Schoolly is an OG. Schoolly is a Philly guy. Schoolly cut the original soundtrack to Aquateen Hunger Force (which is awesome) and if you want to know more than that, go here. I think this song is sweet and I guess I just couldn’t help posting it.

Special thanks to the Red Baron for making me aware of this. He’s still one of the only classy people to ever come out of Philly, unless you run into him post midnight on any day of the week.

You know those girls who roll with a lot of dudes? The ones that can talk shit, drink like a 250 lb Irish footballer and do anything any guy can do just as well, but probably better.  Nah, I’m not talking about myself, but if you know me personally I can see why you would think that! The chick I’m talking about is Amanda Blank.

The first time I saw Amanda was at Siren Fest in Coney Island, NY. (The Village Voice puts this on every summer and its always a great time).  Blank was on stage with Spank Rock and she more then held her own I might even say she stole the show.  Although, all the members of Spank Rock were clearly intoxicated, but still.  At that time she was working on her solo album which was recently released and is kick ass.  She does a great remix of Santogold’s song “I’m a Lady” which is laid over an amazing cover of LL Cool J’s “I Need Love.” The video above is Amanda’s single “I might like you better” off her freshmen album, I Love You.
