If you’ve been reading this blog since the start you know that we must be peeing our pants with the excitement of the up coming release of Screaming Females new album “Ugly.” A few months back they released the single “It All Means Nothing” which got me so excited that I listened to “Castle Talk” all week long.
“Ugly” is set to drop April 3rd and I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on it. Check out the video for “All Means Nothing” below. If you’re a cat lover it may be hard for you to swallow.
I’m going to bypass the old cliche not to judge a book by it’s cover, and say: Any album cover featuring a Jackalope is a winner in my book.
Happy to you is the second full-length album from Miike Snow following their 2009 self-titled debut, and the electro-orchestronic-fizz-bang-pop they produce on this album is no myth.
Check out this trio of powerhouse writer/producers on their recent live performance of Paddling Out for BBC Radio 1:
Exactly seven days ago the Royal Baths released their garage rock 60’s psych inspired album Better Luck Next Life on Kanine Records. The dangerously provocative video above was created for the third track on the album “Faster Harder.” Think of it as a naughty Valentines Day treat.
Stream the full album below and if you love their seductive dark rock and roll as much as I do then you can grab it right here.
Experimental pop and visual artists Y/Y recently released their new album Peel and Shudder. The video above was created by Brooklyn based media company Octopus Umbrella to accompany the first single off the album “Play Play.”
Tonight Y/Y is having their album release party at Shea Stadium in BK. A bunch of great bands are coming out to support the release like Philip Seymour Hoffman, Tiny Victories, Spanish Prisoners and Crinkles. You can purchase Peel and Shudder for $4 on their bandcamp page. What a deal! It should be an awesome night of DIY fun so if you’re keen to join in it’s only $8. Show starts at 9:00. See you out there!
A few months ago I happend check out a band that my friend Bob over at GIMME TINNTUS had been tweeting about constantly. He was particularly impressed with their track “Know No Violence” and after listening I could understand why.
One more month passed and I had to the chance to attend their album release show at DBA. Not only did they sound great live, but the whole album is a gold mine of art rock gems. It’s one of the best debut albums I’ve come across in a long time. It’s definitely making my top ten this year. They recently ran out of free downloads, so the price is now .50 which is a steal. It’s worth WAY more. However, they did note on their bandcamp page that it would be free again as soon as they worked out a way to make it so. Stream the full album below and then grab it on their bandcamp page.
I’m a long time fan of Phantogram. I still listen to their last album Eyelid Movies on a regular basis. I literally love every single track on that album. They have just put out this single in the lead up to the release of their next album Nightlife and it looks like they are picking up right where they left off with some more fantastic indie pop. By the sound of this single it looks like I will have another favorite to add to my collection.
You can picture this group hanging out in sunny Australia skateboarding, maybe playing some video games and then creating some delightful indie pop on the side just for the hell of it. It seems like all that would be the perfect formula for creating an album like Golden Revolver. I think you will agree, especially after hearing the track and watching the video above which coincidentally shares its name with the album.
I love the horns in this song very Beirutesque they seem to pull their sound from almost every era of rock and roll in particular they have the tendency to mix early 1950’s rock with some classic rock influence from the 60’s and 70’s. You can tell that they are very versatile musicians. Keep an eye out for these guys I bet they will be showing up on radars everywhere soon.
You can listen to the full album below and then purchase it on bandcamp for only $5. A portion of the proceeds go to Hope For Haiti’s Children. Good deeds and good music!
