Kid Koala - 12 Bit Blues //

Why does the Chinese-Canadian DJ wear a fury, full-body koala suit? Because Eric San (aka Kid Koala) is a man of his word.

Kid Koala explained to his London crowd last night that the koala suit was the result of a lost bet. Expect the outfit to make 100 gig appearances.

So. Here is what you need to do:

1. Get a taste of his 12 bit blues over at Ninja Tune

2. Catch him performing all his wonderful bluesy bits on his latest Vinyl Vaudeville Tour.

3. Buy the album and make your own hand-spun tunes:

NEW SONG: Zoo Kid // Out Getting Ribs

Okay, hold off on the ginger jokes.  Seriously, though I have to agree with one YouTube user when they said, “This guy is also the same age as Justin Beiber.  What a world of difference.”  Is he serious with that voice.

The song and video above are so simple, but I bet you can’t watch just once.  Check out the rest of his tracks on MySpace, pretty damn good.  Thanks to We All Want Someone To Shout For for bringing this artist to my attention.  Looks like your trip to London paid off.

New Young Pony Club NYPC

New Young Pony Club

NYPC is about to drop their new album, “The Optimist” this Saturday.  Today they have released, “Chaos” the first single off the album which can be heard above.  They will be streaming their new album starting later today and all week on their MySpace page and if you are a big fan you can pre-order the album there too.

Their last album, “Fantastic Playroom” was full of singable danceable electro-pop magic with songs like “Ice Cream” and “The Bomb”.  So far for 2010 they don’t have any U.S. tour dates planned, but hopefully that will change.  I look forward to hearing the full album later today.

10 for 2010: #3 Fanfarlo

For the 3rd entry in our 10 part series on bands to watch in 2010, we turn to the UK.  London’s Fanfarlo started gaining traction in the States towards the end of 2009 with the release of their first full length album, Reservoir.  They are currently on tour in Europe, with some west coast stops planned for late February.  No word yet on their next NYC gig, but by the time they make it back here I’m assuming they’ll be pretty huge.

Above is a video of them playing my favorite song of theirs acoustic as part of the Bandstand Busking series.
