Listening to Britney Howard sing is one thing watching her perform is a whole other. It will give you chills, even possibly bring you to tears. If you watch this and you feel nothing you may actually be a robot. I can’t believe I managed to miss them during CMJ and they just sold out Mercury Lounge so I’m gonna have to finagle my way in to those tickets somehow.
Listen to their full EP below and then buy it because it’s $4 and fucking amazing!
Lands and People - “Everyday” Live at Metro Gallery
I have been meaning to post about these guys since I first heard them on Gluttony Is The New Black and then geeked during CMJ to Jimmy (who also runs the awesome Head Underwater) about my love for them.
“Everyday” is a live recording taken during their show at the Metro Gallery in Baltimore. Listening to it makes me want to drive down to Baltimore and catch a show or harass them enough until they just give up and come to NYC. You can listen to the three track live set from Metro Gallery below. And Jimmy just tweeted me this little goody bag of songs from a Mobtown Studios Microshow session that you can listen to and download here.
Everyones Favorite Cartoon Band - Gorillaz//Live in Damascus
I think this headline kinda says it all. I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing these guys live, but this recording confirms that they are in fact fantastic in real time.
Thanks NPR! (btw NPR has a new music app for all you iPhone fanatics)
Last night I had the pleasure of seeing jj live at the Knitting Factory. I wasn’t sure what to expect. Honestly, I think myself and the many others who attended the show were there purely out of curiosity. Although I was no no way blown away, I was surprised to find that her voice sounded amazing live and happy to see that he walked out on stage ripping a phattie, as advertised in their newest music video.
I’m also willing to bet that these two are brother and sister unless everyone from Sweden has long curly blond hair and light color skin, oh wait they do so maybe I’m way off base, but still that’s the vibe I got. Their set wasn’t that long mostly due to the fact that they don’t have tons of material. I gave them a quick hello after the show and they seemed happy to be playing in NYC and graciously surprised by all the support they were receiving. Above is a live clip from the show and there are some more pics to come.
