GOTCHA COVERED: Japandroids - Jack The Ripper (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Cover)//
It’s such a great feeling when someone really nails a cover. Like when Johnny Cash covered NIN’s “Hurt.” You’re lying if you claim to have not shed a tear to that one.
Although this one may not be as emotionally poignant as Mr. Cash’s cover the Japandroids nailed this slow burning cover of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds “Jack The Ripper” no questions asked. You can just feel that punk rock swagger dripping off this track.

GOTCHA COVERED - Vanessa Carlton - “The Cave” (Mumford and Sons)
Interesting to hear this stripped down version of “The Cave”. She says:
“I like the Mumford and Sons song because it’s very simple and lovely and almost like a little bit of a nursery rhyme,” singer/songwriter/pianist Carlton says of why she chose to cover the UK band’s song. “It says a lot about life.”
Gotcha Covered - Mr. Little Jeans x The Suburbs (Arcade Fire) //
I have a friend who owns a cat. As a kitten, she was called “Moxy”. Moxy was a sweet-natured feline that picked up the nickname “Shnilton.” A few months later, Shnilton became “Uncle Shnilly.” Uncle Shnilly is a fine lady who likes to lounge and lap beer.
This cat has absolutely nothing to do with this cover. Except, perhaps, for the loosely related moral of the story, and that is: “don’t let the stage name confuse you…”
Mr. Little Jeans is actually a Ms., and she doesn’t wear denim all that often. Instead the budding pop star, born Monica Birkenes, took her pseudonym from a character in the movie Rushmore. “You know the Indian guy?” she asks. “The one who does all the Wes Anderson movies? It’s him—that’s his name in the film. He makes me smile every time.
