Portugal. The Man

Portugal. The Man

Somehow this band has managed to slip below my radar.  Which is odd, because this is the chill kind of experimental rock that I can play continuously when I’m in the right mood. Thankfully, my friend Liam who is also a member of NYC’s Voodoo Farm turned me on to them last week during one of our many musically inclined discussions.

Two of the four members of this band were born and raised in Alaska the other two are from Portland and Salem, Oregon.  They have been releasing albums since 2006 and although this album, “The Satanic Satanist” seems to be less experimental then their previous albums is happens to be my favorite.  It seems like they have tried a little bit of everything in the past, but found the right concoction this time.

These guys have kept busy.  Since 2006 they have released four LP’s including one acoustic version of the “The Satanic Satanist” titled, “The Majestic Majesty” as well as six EP’s.   They are set to deliver their fifth LP, “American Ghetto” in the Spring of 2010 on their imprint label Approaching AIRballoons part of Equal Vision Records. Personally, I’m curious to see if they stick with this sound or continue on on a more experimental path.
