MV TIME MACHINE // Sam Cooke
Hey Vags, I’m starting a new series of posts where we highlight amazing artists and performances from back in the day. All of today’s artists have been been able to push the envelope like never before because of the trail blazers of music’s past. We will highlight artists that have shaped the future of music, notable performances in history and just down right cool-ass shit will be posted sporadically.
Sam Cooke and others in the soul movement of the 50’s and 60’s set the stage for modern R&B and soul music. Artists like Cody ChesnuTT, Conya Doss and MV favorite, Erykah Badu draw on influence from soul’s past and Seal even pays tribute to Sam Cooke, Al Green and others on his cover album “Soul” released in 2008.
This is MV’s reminder to never forget where you came from and respect your elders!
Music to your ears - from mine - with love

Original post via mutualbenefit:
Sam Cooke is easily one of my favorite crooners. His melodies have a way of staying with my weeks at a time. It wasn’t until recently, though, that I discovered his live recordings. The Harlem 1963 one is brilliant. You can feel the energy of the crowd through the speakers as he blazes through his hits.
Try to listen to Bring It on Home and not get goosebumps!
