Young Circles//Sharp Teeth - Bones EP
Imagine that Beck, Audioslave and Muse walked in to a recording studio then invited some early 90’s trip-hop and some of your new favorite dub step creators to join the party. That seems to be the best way that I can describe what is going on with the Young Circles, Bones EP.
This may also be a case of when opposites attract, due to the musically diverse backgrounds of Young Circles three members. Jeff Rose, David Barnard and Jordy Asher while all talented musicians came backgrounds dominated by Jazz, Blues and English Space Rock respectively. Although, they had all been high school buddies and floated in and out of various bands they only just decided to come together this year creating the solid sound that is Young Circles.
The track above “Sharp Teeth” is a good example of how all their musical influences have come together. Here, the Beck like lyrics ans style come spilling out and then melt in to mellow shoegazy melodies. These boys are scientists of sound. The EP follows a formula that intrinsically it’s own . Bones drops January 2011 and as someone who’s had the chance to review it I’m telling you everyone will know who these guys are by this time next year. It’s a great EP and I’m hoping they are already dreaming up tracks for a follow up album.
