Kypod’s Top 20 of the naughty naughts..
In no particular order, albeit very personal and therefore probably very biased — like my vagabond comrades, this handful of tunes brings back very distinct memories representing chapters from this decade of my life. Hope you find something in this bunch that you enjoy as much as I did:
1. Gotye - Hearts a mess (2006) 2. Radiohead - 2+2=5...

Miike Snow
Miike Snow is an electro-pop band from Stockholm, Sweden, consisting of American songwriter Andrew Wyatt and Swedish producers Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg. My friend JK who is also a contributor to this blog introduced me to them recently and now their song “Animal” is constantly on replay in my brain.
I was at Southside lounge in Little Italy/Nolita the other night and...

Hola Amigos from ridiculously snowed in Washington DC.
I went and saw this fellow, Jonah Smith, at DC9 on Thursday night. I’d describe his sound as a cross between the Beatles, The Band and a soul singer to be named later. There is a little bit of a country twang mixed in here (normally would offend me) but this guy can sing and, as a close associate of mine who knows Jonah well said,...

The Top 20 Songs of the Decade: As Told By Laura (in no particular order)
Happy Friday Vagabonds! I think we are almost through the Top 100 as told by all of us here at MusicVagabond. The last ten years have been whirlwind, I almost could have sworn it was still the 90’s. Some of these songs remind me of high school but most remind me of college. Looking back, my shenanigans with JP never...

I Gotcha Covered
It’s always great when artists or bands can take an already great song and really make it their own. Below are some of my favorite covers. These covers are all amazing, but my two favorites are the Emily Wells cover of “Juicy” which I wrote about in a previous post and much to my surprise the Solange cover of “Stillness is the Move.” Hope you enjoy!
Bat for Lashes – Kings of Leon-Use Somebody

Download The Roots' 'Sandwiches' Free EP →
I had mixed feelings about The Roots taking on the job of Jimmy Fallon’s house band. But in the few segments I’ve watched of them on the show (ie. Slow Jam the News) I’ve always been impressed and never felt like they totally sold out. In honor of them reaching 1,000 “sandwiches” (or commercial break jams that only the live audience really gets to enjoy)...
So, apparently, Bill Cosby has a hip hop crew. And, apparently, that crew is extremely bad ass, doesn’t take shit from nobody and is generally pretty progressive.
Bill’s crew is called “The Cosnarati” and they have a new album State of Emergency which is sold along with Bill’s book, Come On People. Although I already told you all to go out and get the new R.Kelly for...

Songs of the Decade
During the past 10 years, I had my junior and senior years of high school, went to college, and spent a little more than 3 years living in downtown Manhattan. This was the decade where I formed my taste in music. Below is the list, in chronological order, of the 20 songs that came out in the “Aughts” that had the biggest impact on me. Above, you can listen to...

BLK JKS - Molalatladi
Rolling Stone just premiered the video for one of my favorite bands of 2009. BLK JKS rock out hard, while incorporating African rhythms and style. This video, uses a moving train to mimic the momentum in this driving song.

Another Supergroup, Monsters of Folk
Whats with all the supergroups? I guess I shouldn’t complain because most of them are pretty awesome. Speaking of supergroups, check out The Dead Weather. Anyways, if you like My Morning Jacket or Bright Eyes you will love Monsters of Folk. This group features members from both of the a fore mentioned bands. They don’t have that same jam band sound as My Morning Jacket they do have...

Fela! on the Colbert Report
If you’re a fan of Fela Kuti, get yourself to Broadway to see the new show based on his life and music, Fela! This new musical, created by Bill T. Jones and featuring the Antibalas horns on stage, takes the experience of attending a Broadway show to a entirely new level. In this clip, they bring some Afro-beat magic to Colbert.

I honestly don’t remember how I first learned about West Indian Girl, but I’m glad I did. This band hails from the City of Angels and apparently takes their name from a type of lysergic acid (LSD) that was popular in the early 60 or so says their artist bio on lala.
They have a psychedelic electro rock feel and the male vocals remind me of Shannon Hoon from Blind Melon. Check out the...
